Would you drive a vehicle that you found aesthetically unpleasing (ugly) if it had the performance, utility or other characteristics that you desired?

I would drive it, but I wouldn't buy it.

LM002 says yes

Yes I would drive a Yugo if it was as fast as stink.

I DD a Mercury Mariner. That should answer that.

Definitely

No, looks are a big factor for me. I want to smile when I see it in the driveway. Unless the deal was too good to pass up...

oh yes, story of every car i've ever owned without the part where they perform good lol :]
But yes. If it has good brakes and tires, i'd drive almost everything

Uniquely ugly, or beige-ly ugly?
If unique and ugly, most likely yes.
If beige and ugly, much harder question. But still prob yes.

Absolutely. No show and all go here please. (as opposed to "All show and no go")
I don't really care what it looks like if it gets the job done. Plus, I can't tell "style" for shit. Make it aerodynamic and I'm happy. I don't care what the headlights or grille looks like as long as the lighting is good and the engine stays cool.

The answer is always Miata.

'sup?

According to most, I already do.
![]() 05/19/2014 at 14:44 |

No. It needs a good balance of the two. I need to be happy enough with the performance, and the exterior/interior need to be good enough for me to stand owning it for 5+ years.
Sacrificing too much of form for function, or vice versa, is never very fun.

Of course! Looks aren't unimportant, and I like a beautiful car as much as the next guy, but aesthetics aren't high on my priority list.

YES. OH god yes. Look at the late model M5, that thing looks like a foot but I'd hoon the hell out of it (if it's manual)
![]() 05/19/2014 at 14:47 |

Absolutely.
![]() 05/19/2014 at 14:48 |

Nope.
![]() 05/19/2014 at 14:48 |

Yes, but in some cases I will ditch a great performing car for a beautiful nderperforming one. Alfa Brera vs almost anything else, Challanger vs all the other muscle cars.
![]() 05/19/2014 at 14:59 |
|
absolutely. In fact if it was really super fast, I would prefer it to be ugly.
![]() 05/19/2014 at 15:00 |
|
Absolutely not. Every car I've bought has been for style. I love the aesthetics of certain cars and that's why I buy classics. I like cars because of how they look and how they sound. It's superficial but I appreciate cars mostly on an aesthetic level.
![]() 05/19/2014 at 15:01 |

Maybe.
![]() 05/19/2014 at 15:04 |
|
Absolutely. Then again, I like ugly cars, so maybe that's not a fair question/answer.

Thats all I drive.
![]() 05/19/2014 at 15:12 |

I kinda already do?
![]() 05/19/2014 at 15:17 |

Yep I dont mind at all. I DD a ugly green heavy hail damaged 96 2.2 Legacy sedan for 4 years because it was a 5 speed and was comfy. My wife does not understand LOL
![]() 05/19/2014 at 15:28 |

no you don't that's a beautiful pretty car you are so lucky.
![]() 05/19/2014 at 15:31 |

I can't think of any cars that are ugly, but have the characteristics I desire. Not because one of those characteristics is looks, but because I have really a really messed up view of what makes a car pretty.
If a car has the characteristics I look for, it just gets prettier to me the uglier other people say it is. Except that weird fish super car from china a few years back. That's just wretched.

I drive a 2005 Chevy Malibu Maxx. What do you think?
![]() 05/19/2014 at 16:24 |
|
No.
The other way around though, yes. Would I drive a car that underperformed because I preferred the way it looks? Oh yeah, I kind of do...
![]() 05/19/2014 at 17:55 |

I've always been a function before form person anyway. The Racescort seems to agree.
![]() 05/19/2014 at 21:21 |
|
Actually, I should eat my own words - this is a car in my stable, and it doesn't go very fast (by today's standards - actually in it's day it was a big race winner in it's class)
I do think it's got a bit of style...

I do. When I'm not driving a work truck, but even then, same answer.
